Demonstrate the worth of waste!
CWOCA is organizing a cardboard chair showing for Earth Day, April 22nd. We plan to have both a Southern California and Northern California Event. One to be held in Ventura at the Bell Arts Factory and the other in the Mission of San Francisco with a location to later be announced.
We are currently drawing up sponsors to support our event to provide the most unique and artistic with a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place stipends.
Your creation will also be up for sell or auction with a minimum bid of $150. We will work out the details for sales as it progresses and receive opinions from the artists and designers.
Rules
1) All structural components of chairs are to be made of cardboard. Chairs must be functional and must support an average human (250lb).
2) Materials used are to be limited to cardboard (corrugated, or laminated) ie. Boxes tubes and one other materiel of the artists choosing (bottles, cans, fabric) so long as it does not function as a structural portion of chair. All materials are to be post consumer.
3) Glue, tape, mechanical fasteners are acceptable means of securing cardboard and do not have to be post consumer however it is encouraged.
4) Painting is encouraged.
5) Dimensions of chairs not to exceed 4’L x 4’W and no taller that 6’.
6) Chairs are to be hand made no CNC machining acceptable.
7) Chairs are not to be dangerous to ones self or others.
Submissions must be made by March 17 with images of planned sketches and pictures of found cardboard, to affirm you are ready to build and confirm a spot in the show. Pieces must be completed one week before showing to complete installation and video project (seen below).

Please submit any other locations that will help out fellow members. Other locations to find corrugated would be furniture stores, outside warehouses, and printing shops.
Examples
We also plan to put together a video project using a photo movement video of all creations into a video similar to the one shown below. We will coordinate with artists one week before the showing to setup a shooting.
