Round two of two fools thinking they can make something cool. We took Derek’s smaller prototype version to lay out the mental blueprint and enlarged it and increased the light intensity with only three days to work with before he had to jet back to the east coast. Seems easy enough, but after three 18 hour days, I was wiped and so was Derek, who was able to enjoy his creation for one hour before he was dropped off at the train station.

The construction was quite simple with the majority of the components being used from old computers and lumber wastes dropped off at the recycling center. Nuts bolts and washers were all picked up at Lowe’s as well as the new bulbs and igniters. The fluorescent light ballast was ancient and heavy making it difficult to mount and was picked up from a home put on the renovation chopping block.

The lighting effect put out a pleasant ambient, and would be an awesome item for the bedroom or one of those cool lights mounted on the hall wall leading to the bathroom of your favorite club. There is a Matrix movie quality to it, not intended, but it is a nice effect.

We intend to build an even larger version of this for an upcoming show and add a couple more dynamics to it, clean up the design and change the frame materials.
