Simply… The Tire Chair [Video]

Semi truck tires are 50% metal and 50% rubber and pretty difficult to cut through, but their turgid abilities give more structure without the added support of normal car tires.

Comfortable and polished to keep your vintage threads soot free.

Putting the chair together turned out to be a little of struggle, particularly with the cutting.  Semi-truck tires I found has more metal than rubber; the great benefit is that it stays turgid (stiff) after cutting.  A tractor tire was first up for consideration, but a forklift was required to move it, so starting small was the better option.  Research for the cutting process brought about a commercial tire cutter, that was $20k in cost and there was no time to build one for $500 so  the circular saw would be the regrettable option, much later finding out that the band saw would have been more productive. Lighting came into play when after contemplating a scrap fabric heart shaped cusion with matching doilies wasn’t going to fit the motif.

Used tires are like a month old fruit cake, you have to pay to give them away.  Recycling centers have to pay to get them out of their facilities.  “When man evented the wheel,” he didn’t know it would be so toxic, but  its importance in the strength of its circular form and durability  bring opportunities to many second-life applications.

There is the classic tire swing, which can bring hours of fun moments. Rubber won’t degrade over our lifetime and for many generations to come, so lets make a structure that will stand the test of time and trade bricks for tires, check out the earthships for a lesson in this.  Don’t forget about rolling a tire down a hill with your little cousin inside, that can make a normal afternoon into a party. Last but not least tires can make a good border structure for a garden, the water and dirt is tightly dammed, and you can have some fresh tomatoes for your BLT.

If you have some left over materials and want to rest under the night time halogen light, then try this out.
