Shadow Art Ellis Gallagher [Video]

Green isn’t always intentional–simplicity, creativity and the overlooked can lead to the production and installation that excites our interest and remain clean. Ellis Gallagher, a native New Yorker, found the simplicity of light and brought the shadows out with a basic chalk outline.

Like a little round peg, artists in general, are the leaders in green life–the starving artist agenda leads them to be skinny and unable to join the affluenza club.  Gallagher’s outlines them with chalk–a natural limestone and stone sediment, which become the exacto knife to his shadow stencil installations.  Shadows from the night time halogens and the basic rotation of the earth around the sun to cool the surface from overheating, are his main pattern makers.

Ellis’s works last no longer than a month, because the chalk outlines are washed away by the rain, and are considered a new form of street art.  Graffiti in New York is considered destruction of property, because of it’s permanence on private property.  Even though chalk is easily removable and washes away, Gallagher has been arrested once for 17 hours and is currently suing the City for unlawful arrest.

When the shadows die a crime goes down, or just naturally changing art.
